Oxfordshire - Blenheim Palace

8th Nov - 14 Dec 2014r

Christmas at Blenheim Palace -

Christmas is a magical time to visit Britain's Greatest Palace. This year from 10th November - 14th December (Wednesday to Sunday inclusive) the Palace will be decorated in a very special theme telling the Christmas story of the Three Kings.

Visitors to the Palace will be able to follow the journey of the Three Kings through the State Rooms decorated in glittering gold and festooned in silk. Two magnificent Christmas trees will stand in splendour in the Great Hall, surrounded by palm trees in pots bejewelled in the colours of the Far East. From the balcony above the Great Hall, the Star of Bethlehem will shine out to guide the Three Kings on their way. Baubles and crystals on lush ribbons, shining golden leaves, clusters of peacock feathers and striking turquoise and emerald green marabou fans will provide an exotic welcome to the Palace.

The journey of the Three Kings will continue to the Saloon where the grand table will be dressed with gilded tableware for an exquisite banquet. Jewel encrusted golden palm trees will tower over a display of fabulous peacocks, opulent gifts, and lavish golden bowls of waxed fruits and delicacies.

In the Long Library the star will shine from the majestic central Christmas tree, representing the passage of the Three Kings. Guiding angels will show the Three Kings through the Library to their final destination, the Chapel, where they finally find the baby Jesus in the manger, beneath the shining star.

Stir Up Sunday 11th November
Join in the family tradition to stir our Christmas pudding and make a wish! As part of festive season a wonderful tradition called 'Stir-Up Sunday' will take place in the Water Terraces. Traditionally held on the Sunday before advent when families gather to make and stir a Christmas pudding, whilst making a wish, this event tells the story of the Christmas pudding, from its origination on the journey of the Magi, to the 13 ingredients in the pudding.

Meet Blenheim Palace’s cook who will give live demonstrations on how to make a traditional pudding while children are invited to help add each tasty ingredient. Families can take their turn to stir the big pudding and make a special wish. Hot drinks, delicious festive menus and cakes are available in the Water Terrace Café.
