2012 dates to be confirmed - below gives a taste of what has happened last year
19 Nov - 30 Dec 2011
Lille’s Place Rihour comes alive with wooden chalets crammed with all sorts of Christmas decorations, toys, jewellery and local produce to buy. You can get a magical view of the city by taking a ride on the 50m high big wheel which is set up on the Grand’Place. After that why not warm yourself up with a glass of mulled wine?
With the wave of a magic wand the city is transformed into a wonderful Christmas decor.
This magical French market can be reached in under an hour from Ashford International, launching you right into the heart of the Christmas spirit is less time than it takes to walk the length of Oxford Street on a cold December Saturday.
As you amble through the cinnamon-scented streets you’ll find children’s theatre, tasty French delicacies, local arts and crafts – and on the last Saturday before Christmas, a real highlight when Father Christmas haphazardly descends the 262ft from the Chamber of Commerce tower to distribute sweets to an eager crowd of children

Visitors to this market quickly get into the festive spirit with Lille's month-long Christmas market, held in the Place Rihour in the centre of town. The whole of the Place is taken over by stalls selling arts and crafts and local cuisine. There is entertainment for children in the shape of theatre and games and a chance to sample traditional French Christmas delicacies. Visitors with children can have photo's taken with Father Christmas, who attends the market and participates in a spectacular event on Saturday 18th December - when he "falls" from the Chamber of Commerce's 80 metre-high Belfry.
As an added benefit and for the first time in France, the London based Saatchi Gallery will present more than 60 works from its famous contemporary art collection, assembled for the exhibition entitled "The Silk Road" [La Route de la Soie]. The event wil take place at the Tri Postal, from October 20th to January 16th 2011 and is well worth a visit.
