Location:
Lyon (29 Nov – 24 Dec 2008)
Lyon's Christmas Market, held at the leafy place Carnot, draws the best of French gastronomy, arts and crafts from the Rhône-Alpes region. The colourful chalets are accompanied by a lively programme of events, including entertainers, a puppet theatre and Father Christmas, who offers rides on his donkey-powered sledge.
The chalets, painted in vivid colours, host over 100 exhibitors. If you're looking for Christmas decorations, you can find hand-made Santons (crêche figurines), other decorations and presents of all kinds. Other highlights of the programme include carol singing, children's workshops and puppet shows.
Also in Lyon, each first weekend of December, the centre of La Tour de Salvagny becomes
a Father Christmas village with an exhibition of hundreds of nativity scenes from many countries,
a carrousel, music on stage and in the streets, concerts in the Saint-Ennemond church, puppet theatre,
the sale of a giant Christmas log cake for charity, gift stands and fine food.
