The Christmas markets in Saverne contain a dazzling array of glass and crystal ware for which the town and surrounding area is famous. Former home of René Lalique, the father of modern jewellery, Saverne attracts designers from all over Europe who sell their new designs and traditional pieces at the Christmas markets. The town also has a market dedicated entirely to children. Stalls offer many activities over the Advent period including juggling lessons, magicians, Christmas card and toy making and donkey rides! On St. Nicholas day, 3rd December, St. Nicholas rides into the town on his donkey and distributes sweets and biscuits.
