The town hall in Selestat contains a ledger from 21st December 1521 that details the world�s first known purchase of a Christmas tree. The town celebrates its place in history throughout the Advent period. The Christmas market has an incredible array of trees including the sweet-smelling Alsatian pine. The stalls also sell a huge variety of tree decorations, toys, gifts, food and wine. A short drive out of the city is the remarkable chateau Haute-Koeningsburg. A Christmas market is held within the chateau walls on weekends throughout advent.
