Munich's traditional Christmas market - whose roots go back to the 14th century - is held on Marienplatz in the heart of the city centre. The justly popular Kripperlmarkt, one of the largest in Germany to specialise in cribs and other Nativity accessories, is a short walk away on nearby Rindermarkt. There is alpine Christmas music live from the town hall balcony every day. The "heaven workshop" offers creative activities for children free of charge.

New for Coach Tour Operators: The Munich Christmas Market Pass,

This year the market organiser, the Munich Tourist Board, is offering the Munich Christmas Market Pass 2010 that is perfect for groups and will guarantee an unforgettable trip to Munich this Advent.

The pass that can be ordered from the Munich Tourism office for just €14 includes six vouchers for €20 that can be redeemed at the market stands or nearby attractions.

In the run up to Christmas the streets in and around Munich’s Marienplatz in the very centre of the state capital are bustling with Christmas wares on display at the city’s oldest Christmas market. There is nothing better then spending a pleasurable hour or two strolling through the stands breathing in those fabulous Christmassy aromas. Some of the vouchers in the Munich Christmas Market Pass 2010 are for visitor attractions nearby.

One voucher entitles you to climb the town hall tower and get a bird’s eye view of the market far below whilst others allow you to enjoy a glass of steaming mulled wine and a sausage roll against the romantic backdrop of the city’s “new” town hall to the dulcet accompaniment of Bavarian Christmas music. Don’t forget to collect your hand carved Christmas star to take home with you as a memento of your stay. But before you head homewards do drop in to Munich’s municipal museum to see the “Typically Munich” exhibition displaying artefacts pertaining to life in the city on the Isar and its inhabitants. The final voucher is very practical as it provides a cotton bag for you to carry your souvenirs home in!

The Munich Christmas Market Pass 2010 can be ordered on a commission basis from the Munich Tourist Office.
