During advent, the streets and squares in Regensburg are all filled with sparkling Christmas lights and a very special atmosphere embraces the UNESCO World Heritage city. Our visitors can enjoy this romantic time with our four different Christmas markets.
There is Regensburg’s traditional CHRISTMAS MARKET , which an independent jury has described as one of the loveliest in the German-speaking countries (daily 10 AM – 8 PM, 10 AM – 9 PM on Thu, Fri, Sat).
From there, it is only a short walk to LUCREZIAMARKT, where artists and craftsmen set up stalls laden with wonderful handmade wares (daily 11 AM – 8 PM).
Then, there is the ADVENT MARKET in the Spitalgarten on the other side of the Danube, which is a beautiful beer garden in summer and now offers a different Christmas motto each weekend. On each of these markets the visitor can enjoy hot mulled wine and all sorts of traditional foods, from candied almonds and gingerbread to Bratwurst (grilled sausage). All markets start on the first weekend of advent and close on 23rd of December.
And every year again during advent there are BOAT TRIPS along the Danube Valley from Regensburg through the charming winter landscape.

The castle of the princely family of Thurn and Taxis lies just a few streets further on. Here,
too, in the romantic courtyard, a little wooden town has sprung up, bathed in the light of
thousands of candles, lanterns and torches.
A splendidly decorated Christmas tree in the centre of the courtyard rises towards the winter sky. Princess Gloria often mixes with the guests on an informal visit. Traditional crafts, culinary delicacies and Christmas music will enchant the visitors. Every day there is a different programme. There’s something for everyone – concerts, various choirs or, for the kids, a visit from St Nicholas or Father Christmas.
