St. Goar adopted by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site is a lively, charming town renowned
for its wine, shopping and the largest castle ruin on the Rhine - Burg Rheinfels.
It lies in the central Rhine Valley and is known particularly for the legend of the Loreley. According
to legend, Lorelei was a maiden who threw herself into the Rhine in despair over a faithless lover.
She was transformed into a beautiful but wicked siren whose enchanting and echoing song can be heard
luring boatmen to their deaths against the cliff.
However today, river excursion cruise ships stop here, and you can visit many of the other beautiful
Villages along the river by this ever-popular mode of transport.
