2012 dates to be confirmed - below gives a taste of what has happened last year
25 Nov - 23 Dec 2011
Christmas tree lights are switched on and hundreds of stall holders set up in the main square Hlavne Namestie and Hviezdoslavovo Square in the Old Town, right up until Christmas Eve.
The accent is on traditional Slovak food, drinks, crafts and gifts.
Despite creeping commercialisation, Bratislava's Christmas markets remain true to their original concept -
to put together in the historic town centre all the little necessities to create an ideal Christmas
atmosphere. Souvenir stands sell traditional ceramics, metalwork, woodwork, straw-work, textiles, glass,
hand-made Christmas ornaments and Christmas wreaths.
In addition, you can taste all the 'bad-for-you' treats
so typical of Bratislava Christmas cooking. Try loke pancakes, larded bread with onions and potato
pancakes. Sink your teeth into strudel, crepes and Christmas cakes.
In the chilly air, warm up with hot chocolate, hot wine, Christmas punch or traditional mead.
During the
weekends of advent, children from Bratislava, Brno, Vienna and Krakow will sing you Christmas carols and
present Christmas customs.
