Zurich Christmas Market at the Main Train Station

One of Europe's largest indoor Christmas markets will be held at Zurich's main train station. Around 150 festively decorated market huts will be set up and present a wide variety of gift ideas. Over 7000 glittering crystal ornaments will adorn a gigantic Christmas tree inside the enormous train station to enchant young and old and offer one of the most popular photo opportunities in pre-Christmas Zurich.

Christmas lighting at the Bahnhofstrasse

Zürich’s Christmas lighting will give a special brilliance to the world-famous Bahnhofstrasse during the Advent season. Thousands of LEDs create moving clouds of light and gentle showers of luminescence. The Christmas lighting will be turned on at 6 pm on November 22 and in honor of the occasion, special “Night Shopping” will take place at more than 150 shops until 10 pm.

Baden’s Christmas illuminations are visible from miles around. At the traditional “Liechterwecke” ceremony, the city’s unique illuminations are switched on in every street. A great crowd of children awakens the magnificent light art with hundreds of little bells. Bakeries hand out Spanischbrödli (local speciality), and there’s hot mulled wine for adults.

Dating back to the 13th century, this striking church is loved by visitors and art enthusiasts for its Chagall stained glass, and Giacometti rose windows. A must see among Zurich sights.

Shoppers, you’ve found your nook once you hit Bahnhofstrasse. This is where you’ll find Zurich’s finest merchandise, from traditional Swiss clocks to exquisite chocolates, and a whole host of other luxuries. It can be very pricey, but it’s definitely worth a look.

Zoo Dolder
Spend a day with the animals at Zoo Dolder on the Zürichberg, the lushly wooded hill just to the east of the city. There are a great variety of animals to see and there’s even a recreated rainforest to make some of them feel at home. The kids will love the penguin parade!

Lake Cruises
Head out onto Lake Zurich for a lake cruise, and see the city from the water. Many of the boats depart from Bürkliplatz.
